Job Description
The Lead Control Systems Engineer at Thermo Systems LLC supports control system project execution across hardware and software, with onsite work centered in Omaha, NE. The role leads portions of delivery, contributes technical guidance, and supports activities from design through FAT, installation, startup, and commissioning.
Role Overview
This position is responsible for designing, developing, integrating, testing, and installing control system hardware and software. The engineer may lead individual project tasks or small to mid-sized projects end to end, providing accurate status updates and coordinating effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support hardware and software design, development, integration, and testing of control systems
- Demonstrate self-sufficiency in field activities while knowing when to seek guidance
- Lead project members during installation, startup, and commissioning activities
- Lead and perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
- Apply strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Read and interpret P&IDs and wiring diagrams
- Maintain a full understanding of Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) applications
- Apply and follow the company’s Quality Management System (QMS)
- Perform intermediate control system design with guidance from senior engineers
- Develop instrumentation specifications for basic control systems
- Review standard documents produced by others for technical accuracy, grammar, and presentation quality
- Use knowledge of IT systems, network infrastructure, and computer system design as related to control system integration
- Complete assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and within budget
- Understand project scope, contracts, and specifications
- Identify issues outside assigned scope and communicate them to the project lead
- Communicate with customers in an effective, positive, and proactive manner
- Follow customer-specific site standards and procedures
- Provide attentive, responsive, and high-quality customer support, including follow-up and honoring commitments
- Conduct all business professionally
- Provide accurate and timely status updates on assigned work
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, combined with relevant technical experience
- Typically 2+ years of total industry experience
- Proven track record of 1–3 years as a Control Systems Engineer or equivalent role
- Strong communication skills with coworkers and project stakeholders
- Strategic problem-solving using technical knowledge
- Independent effectiveness and personal ownership of outcomes

- Compensation: $76,140 - $105,500 Annually + Bonus
