Job Description
Responsibilities
- Apply and broaden your background in instrumentation and controls engineering.
- Collaborate on project teams with other I&C engineers designing new power plants, upgrading existing facilities, and improving plant controls.
- Contribute to power distribution designs and develop specifications for instrumentation and controls equipment procurement and related installation services.
- Coordinate design efforts across disciplines, prepare engineering calculations, and design electrical control circuits for power plant projects.
- Participate in mentoring, technical sessions, and on-the-job training to deepen expertise in the engineering discipline.
- Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant sites for construction coordination and field verification may be required.
- Engage in peer-learning through the firm’s process systems and Communities of Practice.
- Operate within a hybrid schedule based in Clayton, MO, with in-office work required three days per week.
- Lead teams in guiding engineering problems from issue to solution by leveraging data and modern tools to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
- Direct automation and process-improvement activities, including how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation, while ensuring results are verified and AI usage is appropriately guided.
- Oversee engineers who program or script (for example, Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate tasks, with review of outputs, which is valued but not required.
- Value additional learning in computer science, artificial intelligence, software engineering, or related fields to support oversight of automation and AI-enabled workflows.
Requirements
- A BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with coursework in analog and digital control systems.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and designation as an Engineer in Training.
- 12+ years of relevant power plant and heavy industrial control systems experience.
- Experience in power or industrial controls.
- Understanding of practical instrumentation and controls engineering applications, including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to project designs.
- Experience reading and creating logic diagrams and control narratives.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles used to produce technical plans, drawings, and models.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications, with emphasis on MS Excel and MS Access.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective collaboration in a team environment and strong work habits.
- Resourceful and enthusiastic attitude.
- May require occasional travel.

Compensation Range
Compensation Range: $118,023 - $180,313
