Lead Software Engineer - AI Coding

NYU Langone Health is hiring a Lead Software Engineer to lead AI-assisted coding efforts and deliver secure, scalable web solutions with production-grade operational support.

Responsibilities

• Use AI coding tools to generate source code for features defined during sprint planning
• Build test harnesses and implement quality gates for AI-generated code
• Deploy changes to production as needed
• Attend daily standups and participate in scrum ceremonies, including estimating story points
• Provide support and guidance for junior developers and offshore engineers
• Implement solutions with operational best practices, including error handling, logging, metric graphing, graceful failure, and timeout tuning
• Lead and direct engineering work by delegating tasks and acting as a liaison between onshore and offshore teams to accomplish sprint goals
• Drive adherence to standards and practices such as security, unit testing, devops, and instrumentation
• Encourage continuous improvement to increase operational viability and maturity of custom software products based on a published maturity model
• Evaluate tools and technologies and provide analysis and recommendations
• Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation and provide support during production outages off-hours

Requirements

• BS or MS in engineering or computer science (related discipline) or equivalent experience
• 8+ years building custom software solutions using at least two modern, object-oriented programming and/or scripting languages with a web application framework
• 2+ years serving as a tech lead directing engineering efforts and delegating work as a liaison to onshore and offshore engineers
• Expert knowledge of web technologies: HTTP/2, TLS encryption, caching, web browsers, cookies, HTTP headers, HTML, JavaScript, CSS
• Expert knowledge of using at least one advanced AI coding tool using spec driven development (SDD) and building harnesses for coding agents
• Expert knowledge of Unix operating systems including RHEL/CentOS and Ubuntu
• Expert knowledge of Git version control, including branches, code reviews, and tags
• Expert knowledge of unit testing frameworks and experience writing unit tests during development
• Expert knowledge of agile scrum methodology and experience working on a scrum team
• Expert knowledge of relational database technologies: designing normalized schemas, creating schemas and indexes, writing SQL queries, and troubleshooting performance issues (web and service)
• Expert knowledge of creating REST APIs and REST standards using standard tools that automatically create API documentation
• Full stack capabilities: expert knowledge of front end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React) and backend (Python, PHP) for feature development, unit testing, instrumentation, and debugging
• Expert troubleshooting capabilities
• Working knowledge of a cloud computing platform and managing cloud-based infrastructure with infrastructure as code tools
• Working knowledge of DevOps tools creating code pipelines using Jenkins (or equivalent) to deploy and validate deployments
• Working knowledge of test automation tools and the ability to integrate testing into pipelines, including functional, service, contract, and networking failure mode tests
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues across application, networking, and OS level; provide Tier 2 production support

Salary: USD 121,792 - 166,950 per year
