Lead Software Engineer- Java or Python
Job Description
JPMorgan Chase is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for Java or Python to join the Consumer and Community Banking group in New York, onsite. This role centers on delivering secure, scalable technology products as a core technical contributor on an agile team, while guiding architectural evaluations and communities of practice. The position offers a salary range of USD 152,000 to 215,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Develops creative software solutions, covering design, development, and technical troubleshooting, with the ability to tackle nonroutine challenges to build effective systems.
- Creates user interfaces and interactive features for web applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Produces secure, high‑quality production code and participates in code reviews, debugging code written by teammates.
- Identifies opportunities to automate recurring remediation tasks to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
- Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability within existing information architecture.
- Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to promote awareness and adoption of new and leading‑edge technologies.

Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering with 5+ years of applied experience.
- Hands‑on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Experience building microservices with Java, Spring Boot, and Python.
- Experience with cloud technologies, distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and web technologies.
- Hands‑on experience designing enterprise‑scale, high‑volume data processing applications using SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Knowledge of RESTful Web Services and WebSockets/JSON.
- Agile development experience with SCRUM or similar methodologies.
- Advanced proficiency in front‑end languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and back‑end languages (Java, Spring, Python) with practical cloud‑native experience.
- Proficiency across the Software Development Life Cycle and experience with automation and continuous delivery methods.
- Strong understanding of agile practices including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
- Demonstrated competence in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline such as cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile technologies.
