Machine Learning Engineer, Foundational AI (FAI)

Amazon’s Foundational AI (FAI) team is working to advance Generative AI technology built on Large Language Models (LLMs). In this onsite role in Sunnyvale, you will contribute to building and evaluating RL Gyms, while also supporting frontier model progress through applied research and large-scale machine learning.

As a Machine Learning Engineer, Foundational AI (FAI), you will use Amazon’s heterogeneous data sources and large-scale computing resources to accelerate state-of-the-art advances in LLMs.

Role focus

• Support the development of RL Gyms.
• Assess the usefulness of RL Gyms for frontier model advancement.
• Build techniques intended to advance the state of the art with LLMs.
• Support foundational model development in an applied research role.
• Leverage Amazon’s heterogeneous data sources and large-scale computing resources to accelerate LLM advances.

Requirements

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 3+ years demonstrating computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
• Experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics, or natural language processing.

Preferred qualifications

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience using managed ML/AI solutions.

The FAI team supports the growth and progress of RL Gyms and evaluates the value of RL gyms for frontier model advancement. The team’s mission is to push boundaries in Generative AI with LLMs to deliver the best-possible experience for customers.

Compensation

• USD 165,200 - 223,600 per year
