Manufacturing / Applications Engineer

Century Tool and Design Inc. is hiring a Manufacturing / Applications Engineer to support its specialized carbide tooling operation in Plantsville, CT. This onsite, full-time role blends engineering design work with manufacturing collaboration, customer communication, and hands-on problem solving to deliver carbide inserts, toolholders, and application-specific tooling solutions.

The position focuses on translating customer requirements into practical designs that can be produced efficiently and consistently, while building deep product and process knowledge across carbide insert and toolholder development and production realities.

What you’ll do

• Partner with customers to understand tooling requirements and address application problems
• Review customer drawings, specifications, and existing tooling to develop workable solutions
• Design and modify carbide inserts, toolholders, and related tooling
• Create and maintain engineering drawings using AutoCAD
• Troubleshoot and improve existing designs and applications
• Work directly with manufacturing personnel to support efficient, consistent production
• Factor manufacturability, production time, and cost into design decisions
• Build a strong understanding of products, equipment, manufacturing processes, and customer applications

What you bring

• Prior engineering or technical design experience, preferably in manufacturing
• AutoCAD proficiency to create, read, and interpret technical drawings
• Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving ability
• Understanding of manufacturing and how design choices influence production
• Strong communication skills with both customers and production personnel
• Attention to detail and a willingness to learn specialized products and processes

Training & development

• On-the-job learning focused on product-specific expertise, including carbide insert and toolholder design, customer applications, grinding and manufacturing processes, equipment capabilities, and how design decisions affect production and cost
• Guidance to build the ability to take a customer requirement or problem, define a practical solution, design the required tooling, and coordinate with production to manufacture it successfully

Location, schedule, and pay

• Location: Plantsville, CT (onsite)
• Work model: In person, full time
• Pay: USD 90,000 - 120,000 per year
