Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
Mechanical Engineer role in Colchester, VT onsite, responsible for design engineering support, backfill of resources, and development of airflow systems, product variations, testing protocols, and process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Design and assess airflow systems and devices, including evaluation of performance and reliability.
- Develop customized variants of established product lines for application-specific design work.
- Perform engineering calculations aligned with SMACNA industrial standards.
- Interpret codes and standards and apply them to product design specifications.
- Detail fume exhaust systems within a Revit BIM CAD environment.
- Establish testing protocols for product development activities.
- Carry out independent studies, analyses, interpretations, and develop actionable conclusions.
- Assemble custom devices hands-on as required.
- Support the development, training, planning, and implementation of new products and processes.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements and ensure product quality.
- Utilize 8D structured problem-solving to address and resolve complex engineering issues.
- Conduct PFMEA and DFMEA to proactively identify and mitigate risks in design and manufacturing.
- Collaborate to determine requirements for process techniques and improvements to design and manufacturing practices.
- Communicate and track plans clearly to management.
- Anticipate problems before they occur and build rapport with manufacturing staff.
- Troubleshoot discrepancies and propose sound solutions to enhance or repair mechanical and control systems.
- Represent the company professionally when interfacing with customers and vendors.
- Ensure clear communication, understand requirements, and provide technical support aligned with standards and project goals.
- Assist with basic business finance related to capital expenditure and product costs.
Requirements
- Education: BS degree.
- 15+ years of work experience in a relevant field.
- Minimum 15 years of drafting and design experience for mechanical and basic control systems.
- Solid grasp of drafting, documentation, and associated standards.
- Ability to generate, interpret, and validate designs that incorporate ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
- Equivalent experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.
- Competence in solid modeling and assemblies required.
- Experience with SolidWorks Simulation and the ability to set up and evaluate mechanical products for finite element analysis.
- Experience with Autodesk Revit in a construction modeling environment.
- Experience with basic power and control circuit components and design practices.
- Experience with basic pneumatic control, power transmission systems and their design.
- Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes related to sheet metal and machining.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated hands-on mechanical ability.
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and multi-tasking abilities.
- Ability to quickly adjust to shifts in priorities.
- Strong PC skills with general business software including MS Office.
- Proven ability to integrate AI tools and technologies into daily engineering workflows to boost productivity and support data-driven decision making.
