MEP Mid-Level Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Thomas & Dunne Engineers, LLC. is seeking a mid-level electrical engineer to support full-lifecycle delivery of building electrical systems across a range of commercial, municipal, medical, and light industrial projects. This onsite role in Houston, TX focuses on both design engineering and BIM-based electrical modeling for complex MEP coordination.
You will lead electrical power, lighting, emergency, fire alarm, and low-voltage infrastructure design while producing construction documents in AutoCAD and Revit, performing engineering calculations, and ensuring code compliance and integrated coordination across disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and engineering of building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, fire alarms, and low-voltage infrastructure.
- Produce, coordinate, and review comprehensive electrical models and construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit, with a focus on clash-free delivery.
- Perform complex electrical calculations, including short-circuit, overcurrent protection coordination, arc flash, voltage drop, and photometrics.
- Ensure designs comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), applicable NFPA standards, ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC energy codes, and local municipal regulations.
- Coordinate with internal mechanical and plumbing disciplines to deliver integrated MEP models.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Architectural Engineering (BSAE) from an ABET-accredited institution (or related field) with proven electrical design experience.
- 2 to 5 years of direct experience engineering electrical systems within an MEP consultancy or building design firm.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is required.
- Ability to independently produce deliverables and manage models without drafting support.
- EIT required.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is highly preferred.
- Excellent scheduling skills to coordinate multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
