NSI P2 Welding Engineer
Job Description
Northern Stamping Inc is seeking a NSI P2 Welding Engineer to elevate welding methods for metal fabrication with a strong emphasis on hands-on shop floor execution. Based onsite in Valley View, Ohio, you will blend practical process control with ongoing R&D to establish welding procedures, select and optimize equipment, and direct quality-driven inspections. The position offers a salary range of USD 85,000 to 95,000 per year and expects you to spend roughly eight in ten hours on the shop floor.
Responsibilities
- Develop engineering analyses for projects, covering preliminary design, calculations, life cycle cost, and equipment selection.
- Perform field surveys to collect relevant data.
- Interpret and prepare blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, and other visual aids.
- Draft technical welding specifications.
- Utilize CAD software as needed for design support.
- Oversee project issues, budgets, and schedules to stay on track.
- Review proposed changes to engineering standards, policies, or details and provide critique.
- Assess development plans for compliance with adopted standards and sound engineering practices.
- Act as a liaison with customers to ensure alignment and clarity.
- Maintain quality control and lead effective weld programming from start to finish, including weld and laser/camera (Perceptron) programs.
- Troubleshoot issues with power supplies, weld programs, controllers, and tooling fixtures.
- Demonstrate experience programming Motoman robots (MRC, XRC, NX, DX) and Panasonic robots.
- Apply resistance welding knowledge to all related processes.
- Set up resistance welding machines and develop/monitor welding parameters.
- Perform pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, and programming repairs as needed.
- Hold authority to decide rework versus scrap decisions.
- Operate within standard operating procedures and job safety analyses.
- Communicate with shift supervisors, welding engineers/technicians, the Welding Engineering Manager, and the Plant Manager.
- Coordinate with vendors as necessary for support.
- Provide production assistance as required.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Weld Engineering.
- Three to five years of engineering experience.
- Two to five years of manufacturing experience.
- Willingness to travel for meetings, site visits, and inspections.
- Flexible schedule availability.
- Working knowledge of welding techniques.
- Experience with robotic programming tools.
- Manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- PPAP experience.
- PQPFMEA experience.
- Blueprint reading proficiency.
- QS9000 system familiarity.
- TS16949 system familiarity.
- ISO14001 system familiarity.
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) knowledge.
- Experience with corrective and preventive actions.
