PLC Applications Engineer

TRI-R Systems Incorporated is hiring a full-time, on-site PLC Applications Engineer in DeKalb, IL to design, build, and support PLC-based control systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and implement PLC-based control systems, including hardware configuration
• Develop ladder logic and other PLC code for control applications
• Integrate HMI/SCADA interfaces
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues in industrial control systems
• Provide technical support to internal teams and customers
• Perform system testing and validation
• Create and maintain documentation, including wiring diagrams, user manuals, and test reports
• Collaborate with electrical engineering staff and in-field electricians
• Participate in project planning
• Support installation and commissioning at customer facilities
• Maintain and support existing systems
• Identify opportunities for system improvements
• Ensure work complies with applicable safety and industry standards

Requirements

• Strong skills in technical support and testing for industrial control or automation systems
• PLC software development skills, including PLC programming, HMI/SCADA configuration, and control logic design (e.g., Rockwell FactoryTalk, Wonderware, or iFIX)
• Electrical engineering fundamentals, including understanding circuits, control panels, wiring practices, and safety standards
• Mechanical engineering knowledge to collaborate on machinery integration, motion control, and system layout
• Familiarity with major PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, GE, Siemens, or similar
• Experience reading and creating electrical schematics
• Hands-on experience with commissioning and field support
• Bachelor’s or associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective written and verbal communication
• Ability to work safely in industrial environments
• Proficiency in English
• Valid drivers license and reliable transportation; travel to and from client locations will be required
