Murata Machinery USA Inc offers an on-site Electrical Design Engineer role in Charlotte, NC. You will design electrical systems in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and project management professionals, applying current engineering practices and North American standards while adapting global technologies for North American customer sites. The position supports Muratec system quality and reliability and provides opportunities to contribute to safety and performance across multiple projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop electrical designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, calculations, and specifications while applying sound engineering practices.
- Maintain electrical schematics and supporting drawings using EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical, coordinating with other departments, project engineers, and fabrication groups during and after the build cycle, and update drawings as needed.
- Ensure design integrity meets functional requirements such as rate capacity, strength, reliability, and service life using standard engineering tools and prototype testing when necessary.
- Apply knowledge of North American codes and standards to assess designs and provide technical recommendations, potentially modifying global designs for local acceptance.
- Integrate safety concepts into the equipment design, addressing human and machine safety considerations.
- Create and maintain safety validation documentation, including SISTEMA files.
- Lead quality checks of completed designs and equipment and provide technical guidance to other engineers to ensure performance and conformance to customer specifications.
- Develop engineering department guidelines, templates, and training materials; lead EPLAN drawing and template development.
- Collaborate with the Systems Planning team to produce project estimates detailing material costs and design hours; maintain department estimating tools.
- Maintain device and system drawing packages and conformance documentation.
- Manage budget and schedule commitments within the design cycle.
- Oversee the research phase of purchasing electrical parts; justify product choices to the Project Manager and issue purchase orders for electrical components.
- Participate in project kick-off meetings to capture specifications, timelines, and provide hours and material cost estimates.
- Schedule and chair design reviews, capturing minutes as required throughout the design cycle.
- Attend project update meetings to monitor budgets and timelines and participate in post mortem discussions for continuous improvement.
- Assist in identifying electrical issues on the shop floor or customer sites, coordinate investigations, root cause analysis, and design improvements.
- Support the Engineering Supervisor in pursuing quality and reliability goals and researching new electrical devices and methods.
- Respond to inquiries from staff, departments, and customers with technical electrical design support.
- Develop design documentation including operating, setup, repair, and maintenance manuals, procedures, spare parts lists, and recommendations.
- Ensure OHSA health and safety policies are followed during work on site and at the Grimsby, Canada location.
Requirements
- Minimum ten years of experience as an Electrical Engineer in an industrial, engineering, or automation environment.
- Experience with EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical is required.

- Familiarity with modular cabling technologies, cable tray systems, and electrical installations.
- Electrical wiring experience and familiarity with mechanical systems are assets.
- Expertise in safety system design and assessing safety circuits to comply with standards and achieve required Performance Level.

Travel
