Job Description

The PMC Project Engineer, part of Duke Energy's Project Management and Construction group, provides technical leadership across development, design, construction and commissioning of regulated new generation projects. The role involves transitioning from development and portfolio support to field-based project engineering as projects move into construction.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engineering guidance and problem solving within the designated specialty, with the ability to anticipate long-term outcomes and assess system-wide effects.
  • Align work activities with business goals through planning, estimating, scheduling and monitoring, adapting to environments with limited standardization and varying scenarios.
  • Produce precise technical reports, correspondence, calculations and sketches; analyze data and recommend process improvements and standards for the area of assignment.
  • Lead engineering studies and coordinate complex projects, applying deep technical expertise to manage initiatives and share knowledge to strengthen the organizational unit.
  • Apply broad engineering principles and practices, evaluate business processes, and help develop relevant standards while staying current with new technologies and procedures.
  • Foster positive working relationships to coordinate activities across teams and disciplines.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills across stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to support project needs.
  • Support corporate goals and represent the company in a professional manner.
  • Coach and mentor other engineers and non-degreed engineering professionals to promote development and knowledge transfer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years with state Professional Engineer licensure.
  • Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.

Preferred location

The preferred location for this position is Charlotte, NC, but the hiring manager will consider other Duke Energy jurisdictions in North and South Carolina.

Working conditions

  • Hybrid position based in the Carolinas region. The hybrid designation requires presence at the assigned work location or project sites at least three days per week to support ongoing professional development and relationship-building.
  • Initial duties focus on development support for gas generation projects, with a transition to a field-based project execution role as projects advance.

Travel requirements

Estimated travel is 15-25% of the time.
