Principal Geotechnical/CMT Engineer
Job Description
The Principal Geotechnical/CMT Engineer will lead geotechnical tasks, prepare technical reports and calculations, provide field support, and participate in site visits. This onsite role is based in Pittsburgh, PA, with a potential path to a Managing Principal depending on qualifications.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (onsite).
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with geotechnical and materials testing/inspections teams on a wide range of projects for public and private sector clients.
- Conduct general geotechnical engineering work, including the preparation of geotechnical reports and calculations.
- Provide technical support to field staff and assist with field activities as needed.
- Review daily construction inspection field reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Carry out occasional project site visits related to active projects.
- Note that the position is currently non-managerial, with potential reclassification to Managing Principal based on candidate qualifications.
Requirements
- Local to the Pittsburgh region or willingness to relocate to Pittsburgh.
- Bachelor and/or Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a similar ABET-accredited engineering program.
- 12+ years of progressive experience in the geotechnical engineering consulting sector.
- Professional Engineer license in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain licensure via reciprocity within three months of hire.
- Willingness and ability to mentor junior staff.

Preferred Qualifications
- Local western Pennsylvania market experience with established industry relationships.
- Familiarity with geotechnical software such as Tablogs/Tablabs, L-Pile, SLIDE, Settle 3D, MSEW, and related tools.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Business development experience and capability.
- Ability to interpret engineering and construction plans and specifications.
- Experience with senior review of geotechnical reports prepared by staff engineers.
