Geotechnical Senior Staff Engineer in the Geotechnical Division of MFS Consulting Engineers & Surveyor, DPC, based in South Plainfield, NJ, assists with project management, prepares geotechnical reports and calculations, and conducts field inspections.
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of lab and field equipment to evaluate soil conditions and properties
- Lead or participate in geotechnical field investigations and construction inspections
- Prepare daily, detailed site inspection reports reflecting field operations
- Conduct technical research and use computer tools to develop engineering solutions
- Perform geotechnical evaluations and produce calculation documents
- Draft comprehensive geotechnical engineering reports
- Analyze geotechnical samples and perform field soil testing
- Produce technical reports, memos, and recommendations, communicating engineering solutions
- Maintain client relationships and manage project budgets for field inspection and design efforts
- Coordinate field testing and data collection activities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including engineers, designers, technicians, permit specialists, planners, CAD/graphics staff, architects, and construction management professionals
- Oversee field staff and review field documents and reports
- Delegate tasks efficiently and coordinate field personnel
- Coordinate field personnel scheduling and logistics
- Prepare proposals and review pricing from subcontractors
- Procure subcontractors for geotechnical investigations and design support
- Review drawings and calculation packages for consistency and accuracy
- Perform QA/QC on design work
- Approve time and expense entries for field staff
- Support invoicing processes
Requirements
- B.S. in Civil, Geotechnical, or a related engineering field
- Engineer-In-Training working toward a Professional Engineering license (P.E.)
- 3+ years of professional experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD
- Proficiency with gINT geotechnical software
- Experience with LRFD/ASD design and advanced analysis tools such as RISA, DeepXcav, and AllPile
- Experience analyzing below-grade walls, retaining structures, and foundations
- Experience performing geotechnical and construction special inspections
- Strong communication skills with managers, clients, and contractors
- Excellent written and verbal communication and solid design skills
- Valid driverβs license and reliable transportation
- Background check clearance
