Principal I&C Design Engineer
Job Description
Edgewater Technical Associates seeks two Principal I&C Design Engineers to support the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC, onsite.
Responsibilities
- Define the scope of technical programs and craft high quality solutions for challenging, unique or controversial problems.
- Meet company and industry requirements while applying site systems to deliver timely, cost-effective results.
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced engineers on related tasks.
- Leverage deep expertise in the field to resolve complex problems across technical domains.
- Incorporate advanced practices and manage complex features such as new materials, special processes, and intricate coordination into problem solving and planning.
- Lead the development of solutions to complex issues and be recognized as an expert in one or more technical areas.
- Offer direction across departmental lines on programs seeking new approaches and applications of existing engineering or scientific principles.
- Assess program outcomes and prepare reports and recommendations based on findings.
- Identify improvements when current technology components or methodologies are insufficient.
- Maintain awareness of technological progress within the area of specialization.
- Prepare plans with schedules, budgets, and personnel needs for technical tasks identified by management.
- Develop schedules, monitor progress, manage budgets, and oversee work quality.
- Communicate results and objectives verbally and in written form to customers, colleagues, and management.
- Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
- Advance expertise through leadership in local technical societies.
- Demonstrate creativity via patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers, and articles.
Requirements
- Ten (10) years of direct I&C design experience (within the last 15 years) in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
- Design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs, and distributed control systems.
- Proficiency in MicroStation 2D CAD software.
- Ability to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site, including potential construction site conditions, uneven surfaces, long walking distances, ladders, and protective clothing.

Education / Years of Experience
- Ph.D. degree in an applicable science or engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience
- MS with 8+ years of experience
- BS with 10+ years of experience or more; BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Nuclear, or I&C Engineering, or current Professional Engineer (PE) registration in one of these disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
- Active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years
Other Job Requirements
- U.S. Citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance (an active DOE clearance is not required to perform duties initially)
