Principal I&C Engineer

Omega Technical Services is seeking a Principal I&C Engineer to support ongoing operations from Aiken, SC (onsite). In this role, you will define program scope and provide technical leadership for complex instrumentation and controls engineering efforts, including analysis, walkdowns, design development, and generation and review of key design deliverables supporting DOE/DoD operations.

Role Overview

You will lead engineering analysis and design development while producing and reviewing I&C design output documents. Primary work includes developing scope-driven solutions and applying SRNS processes and procedures to ensure engineering services are delivered with quality, schedule discipline, and cost effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Define scope of technical programs and develop high-quality solutions for unique or controversial technical challenges.
• Creatively meet company and industry requirements and apply site systems to deliver timely and cost-effective results.
• Provide technical guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.
• Use specialized field expertise or broad multi-discipline experience to resolve complex problems.
• Apply advanced technical practices and coordinate complex features, including complicated technical requirements, new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight needs.
• Lead the determination of solutions for complex problems and be recognized as an expert in functional areas of technical expertise.
• Provide direction and position responsibility inside and outside department lines for programs pursuing new approaches and application of existing engineering and scientific principles.
• Evaluate program results, preparing reports and recommendations based on those evaluations.
• Identify and recommend improvements when established technology components or methodologies are inadequate.
• Stay current on technology advancements as applied to your area of expertise.
• Prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for technical tasks identified by management.
• Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures, and review the quality of work performed.
• Communicate objectives and results verbally and in manuscripts to customers, colleagues, and management.
• Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
• Enhance expertise through leadership in local technical societies and demonstrate creative engineering capability through patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, and technical papers and articles.
• Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS.
• Primary engineering analysis and delivery work includes walkdowns, design development, and generation of design output documents such as P&IDs, Control Logics, Loop Diagrams, Instrument Indices, Setpoint Lists, Instrument and Control Valve Specifications, DCS and PLC Design, Instrument Location and Installation Design, Panel Layouts, and Vendor Document Review.
• Ensure engineering services are provided using SRNS processes and procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in an applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years experience.
• Alternative combinations: MS with 8+ years experience; or BS with 10+ years experience or more.
• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, I&C Engineering, or current registration as a Professional Engineer in one of the above disciplines.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Satisfactory pre-employment screening including drug and breath alcohol testing and a Motor Vehicle Record check.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
• Must demonstrate 10 years of direct I&C design experience (within the last 15 years) in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
• Must demonstrate design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs, and distributed control systems (DCS).
• Proficiency using MicroStation 2D CADD software is required.
• Must be able to perform weekly field walkdowns, including work around uneven surfaces, distances over half a mile, climbing ladders for remote access, and wearing protective clothing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years.
• Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.

Location and Compensation

• Location: Aiken, SC (onsite)
• Salary: USD 185,000 - 205,000 per year

Work Schedule

• 40 hour work week scheduled.
• Client schedules may include 5/8s (8 hours/day, five days/week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day, four days/week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB).
• Work week excludes client holidays.
• Each workday includes a 30-minute lunch.
• Overtime may be expected at times to meet deliverables and is utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
