Principal Software Engineer

Dimensional Fund Advisors is hiring a Principal Full-Stack Engineer for the Platform Engineering Team in Austin, TX (hybrid) to design and run platform services end to end.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver technology services supporting the technology platform
• Partner with business analysts, product owners, subject matter experts, and project managers to deliver solutions for customers
• Lead technical team design and engineering efforts
• Contribute to architecture and design with a focus on modern, secure, scalable, best-practice development and operations (including principles such as everything as code and zero-trust)
• Critique and approve code changes produced by other developers
• Mentor and develop junior engineers
• Mature technology processes and improve engineering practices
• Use principal-level engineering experience to refine architecture patterns
• Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines and develop solutions that support operations
• Write unit and integration tests, contribute to an engineering wiki, and produce detailed documentation
• Integrate platform services with existing systems, including ServiceNow
• Provide technical troubleshooting and production support for platform systems
• Collaborate with subject matter experts across domains to support developers, business users, and clients
• Stay current with emerging technologies and work with technical product owners to define the service roadmap

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, computer science, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
• 10+ years of programming experience in Python (open source) or equivalent
• 5+ years supervising developers and reviewing or approving code changes through standard SDLC processes
• Experience with automated acceptance testing and ability to write unit-tested, maintainable code
• Proficiency building RESTful APIs and web services
• Strong understanding of cyber security risks and experience designing and building secure applications
• Experience working in a dynamic, interactive team environment to deliver software implementations
• Proven track record delivering value and innovation through CI/CD
• Knowledge of best practices and IT operations for always-up, always-available services
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies with a software development and integration focus
