Principal Software Engineer (Cloud Native)

Versant Media is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to guide cloud-native modernization and platform strategy. This hybrid role in New York supports scalable engineering delivery, stakeholder alignment, and team mentorship while driving pragmatic, iterative execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and lead modernization efforts for inherited systems, with a focus on speed, scalability, and business value.
• Assess and implement SaaS and low-code/no-code platforms to accelerate delivery and reduce custom development.
• Partner with business, product, and technology leaders to ensure technical solutions support strategic goals.
• Use rapid prototyping, iterative development, and pragmatic decision-making to move work forward.
• Inspire and mentor engineers, building a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous learning.
• Drive alignment across engineering, product, and business teams.
• Set and communicate the technical vision for the engineering organization, collaborating with engineering leadership on practices, standards, and direction aligned to long-term strategy.
• Maintain a high level of customer service and quality, with ownership across engineering outcomes.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proven experience with cloud-native architecture including AWS, Azure, and GCP, along with serverless and event-driven design.
• Strong understanding of SaaS platforms, low-code/no-code, and Gen AI tools.
• Demonstrated ability to lead engineering efforts and influence cross-functional teams.
• Experience modernizing legacy systems and integrating with modern platforms.
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Track record of delivering secure, scalable, and high-performing systems.

Location and Work Schedule

This position is designated as hybrid, generally requiring in-office contribution for a minimum of three days per week.

Salary Range and Application Process

Salary: USD 170,000 - 200,000 per year (bonus eligible). Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
