Product Engineer - Slip Rings

Responsibilities

• Assess, design, develop, and provide full life-cycle support for sliding-contact slip rings used to transmit power, digital and analog signals, and RF shielding up to 3+ GHz, aligned with customer specifications and industry standards.
• Create schematics and printed circuit board layouts for power and digital data transmission circuits.
• Evaluate electrical systems from customer requirements and map Deublin's technology offerings to produce new custom products.
• Review mechanical drawings to ensure electrical properties are met by design features and callouts on prints.
• Conduct proof-of-concept and validation testing on new products, concepts, or materials, with results documented in formal reports and presentations.
• Provide application support for the slip ring product line to customers via email, phone, web meetings, and in-person visits.
• Identify sources for new parts and assist the procurement team in supplier qualification.
• Analyze discrepant materials and determine appropriate dispositions.
• Perform sales calls with Sales representatives at customer sites.
• Assemble and test prototype slip ring assemblies for internal and external use, and assist manufacturing on first production builds.
• Lead product validation, HALT, verification, and compliance testing using motor drives, multimeters, hi-pot testers, oscilloscopes, and related equipment.
• Develop and evaluate new concepts and materials as needed for new products, performance improvements, and cost reductions.
• Analyze potential failure modes and craft action plans to improve reliability.
• Apply design for manufacturability and design for assembly principles to products as appropriate.
• Contribute to Aerospace and Defense project development when involved.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required, Electrical Engineering is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required, Slip Ring Engineering experience is preferred.
• Experience with RF (3+ GHz) is preferred.
• Knowledge of quality assembly and soldering practices and the ability to perform basic soldering and assembly of electrical and mechanical components.
• Experience in PCB design including component selection and best practices for power and data layouts, plus mechanical interfacing.
• Ability to analyze electrical components or systems for power-handling capabilities in operating environments.
• Familiarity with electrical shielding and EMI mitigation in electrical systems.
• Ability to specify and assess the quality of static contacts such as solder joints, crimps, and bolted connections.
• Familiarity with materials used in electrical systems for bulk conduction, contacts, and insulation.
• Ability to identify and interpret international standards to justify design concepts.
• Familiarity with international compliance testing requirements.
• Ability to design new products using CAD techniques, calculations, and testing.
• Knowledge of test methods to verify electrical performance (signal noise, impedance, dielectric withstanding, etc.).
• Ability to perform MTBF and FMEA analyses.

• Compensation for this exempt salaried role with a pay range of $72,000 to $140,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
• Location-based details: on-site at the Deublin facility in Waukegan, IL; five days on-site per week with potential to move to a 3 on-site / 2 remote arrangement after a 90-day introductory period.
• Travel expectation of approximately 20% to customer sites with Sales representatives.
