Job Description
Mid-level Project (Controls System) Engineer at Huffman Engineering Inc leads external customer automation projects as a technical lead within a multi-discipline controls team.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering analysis and system design to interface with machines, hardware, and software by translating customer specifications into workable automation concepts; apply broad proficiency across software and hardware domains.
- Drive software configuration and controls design, manage complex projects applying configuration and design principles, and oversee fabrication and installation to ensure conformance with design and customer requirements. Develop control applications for new industrial uses.
- Plan and execute testing and troubleshooting programs using diagnostic tools; collect data, analyze findings, and apply engineering principles to reach solutions. Conduct factory and site acceptance tests as needed.
- Serve as a key project leader within the HEI team, mentoring others, directing work, and ensuring thorough completion of tasks; act as the technical lead on multiple projects as required.
- Spend substantial time in client/vendor and people-management activities, building trusted relationships through technical leadership and clear communication.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience with FE or 7+ years of experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
- Proven proficiency in electrical design, PLC programming, HMI programming, or commissioning.
- Experience creating new programming and documentation rather than maintaining systems developed by others.
- Strong understanding of complex electrical principles with advanced troubleshooting skills.
- U.S. citizen.
- Driver's license required.
- Controls Engineering experience: 5 years (required).
