Project Engineer
Job Description
Devault Refrigeration is hiring a Project Engineer to design and deliver industrial and commercial refrigeration systems from concept through commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Create refrigeration system layouts, complete load calculations, and select suitable components
- Ensure projects meet safety codes, energy efficiency requirements, and environmental regulations
- Improve system performance with a focus on sustainability
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to support on-time, successful project execution
- Track project progress, identify technical challenges, and implement engineering solutions
- Supervise installation, including testing and start up procedures
- Support commissioning to confirm correct system functionality
- Perform inspections and performance evaluations
- Troubleshoot refrigeration system issues and provide technical solutions
- Apply best practices for refrigerant management and ongoing system maintenance
- Maintain compliance with workplace safety standards
- Develop and maintain detailed project documentation, technical reports, and operational guidelines
- Complete post-project evaluations to drive continuous improvement
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or related field)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in refrigeration, HVAC, or mechanical systems (refrigeration, HVAC or mechanical systems: 3 years required)
- Knowledge of refrigeration principles, heat transfer, and thermodynamics (required)
- Experience with ammonia, CO2, and Freon-based systems (preferred)
- Proficiency with system design software such as AutoCAD (BIM is a plus)
- Strong organizational skills
- Basic computer proficiency, including MS Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate with a team
- Ability to work independently
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Interest in obtaining PE certification
- Safety- and quality-focused work style
- Valid Driver’s license and insurable driving record (required)
- Must pass substance screenings and background screenings
- Must follow the employee manual and all safety policies
