Project Engineer - Electric Distribution
Job Description
This role focuses on delivering and directing the technical execution of electric distribution projects, with a clear path toward assuming Project Manager responsibilities. Based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with remote work flexibility, the position emphasizes disciplined project planning, client coordination, cost awareness, and team leadership to drive successful delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute electric distribution design and engineering tasks, covering overhead and underground networks, system upgrades, and modernization initiatives
- Conduct quality control reviews for both pre‑construction and post‑construction design packages
- Prepare and critically review analyses, design documents, and project deliverables to ensure accuracy, constructability, and standards compliance
- Provide technical guidance to Design Engineers, Designers, and Drafters, including directing tasks and reviewing work
- Assess vendor drawings and perform independent engineering reviews for smaller projects
- Support permitting activities and coordinate with municipalities, utilities, and third‑party stakeholders as needed
- Assist with construction support and help resolve design issues encountered during build
- Collaborate closely with the Project Manager to monitor scope, schedule, budget, and quality metrics
- Clearly communicate technical risks, constraints, and schedule impacts to project managers and stakeholders
- Participate in client meetings, technical discussions, and coordination calls
- Assist with proposal development, technical estimates, and understanding fee structures
- Support forecasting, workload planning, and progress tracking across multiple projects
- Adopt and apply best practices in project controls, change management, and risk management
- Suggest and contribute to process improvements, standardization, and efficiency gains
- Mentor junior team members and share technical knowledge as appropriate

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Civil or Structural backgrounds may be considered depending on experience)
- Experience supporting electric distribution systems, including overhead and/or underground design
- Strong technical foundation and meticulous attention to detail
- Effective communication with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders
