You will lead applied research and testing in state-of-the-art high and medium voltage laboratories, shape project scopes, schedules, and budgets, and communicate results to utilities and manufacturers. What you will do

  • Lead and manage research and testing initiatives as the project’s Principal Investigator, including defining scope, timelines, and budgets
  • Develop detailed test plans that align with international standards and oversee their execution
  • Coordinate testing activities, schedules, resources, and technicians, often coordinating across multiple NEETRAC engineers for multifaceted projects
  • Engage hands-on in laboratory testing when required
  • Analyze test data and produce comprehensive test and research reports
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to groups of 45+ engineers
  • Maintain clear communication with customers regarding project status and results
  • Build expertise by addressing real world power delivery issues and consulting with member utilities and manufacturers
  • Present work at board meetings, forums, and international committee meetings; participate in leading standards development activities (IEEE, ASTM, ANSI, and similar bodies)
  • Publish technical papers and articles; represent NEETRAC at industry conferences and events

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Master's degree with 3 years of relevant full-time experience after degree, or Master’s degree with 5 years after completing a Bachelor's degree
  • Doctoral degree
  • Master's degree in a related area with 7 years of relevant full-time experience after degree, or 9 years after Bachelor's
  • Doctoral degree in a related area with 4 years of relevant full-time experience after Bachelor's

Education, licenses, and experience

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s (preferred), or PhD in mechanical engineering or a closely related field
  • Engineering license in any state or the ability to obtain one within one year

Experience

  • Experience with electric utility standards, line design, line operations, O&M, research, protection and controls, testing, or related areas
  • Laboratory experience in environmental, mechanical, high voltage, medium voltage, and high power testing
  • Experience in designing electric utility products and in failure analysis and component evaluation
  • Background in asset management or operations research with emphasis on population statistics, infrastructure management, risk characterization and mitigation
  • Familiarity with standards and specifications; involvement with standards development organizations (IEEE, ASCE, ASTM, UL, CSA or similar) is valuable
  • Comfort with hands-on work using hand tools and instruments

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Strong teamwork and the ability to leverage colleagues’ expertise
  • Capacity to work with both depth and breadth across topics
  • Expertise in test procedure design, methods, and data analysis
  • Wide-ranging experience across different product types and testing contexts
  • Ability to design custom or unique test methods
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in parallel
  • Capability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences in reports and presentations
  • Willingness to travel for standards development committee meetings, typically at least two weeks per year; more travel possible with broader involvement
