Robotics Software Engineer
Job Description
Asylon is seeking a Robotics Software Engineer to design, implement, and deploy software for autonomous navigation and related capabilities for autonomous ground robots (UGVs). This onsite role in Norristown, PA focuses on field testing, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and turning customer feedback into software improvements.
Role Summary
You will build and maintain robotic software that supports autonomous ground robot performance, including navigation, motion planning, SLAM, dynamic obstacle avoidance, and sensor fusion. Work includes integrating sensor data, coordinating product updates with testing workflows, diagnosing issues found during development and in the field, and partnering with customer success to address user-reported needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Write clean, modular, and well-documented code for ground robots, including DroneDog (a Spot-based quadruped), to add user-facing features and improve reliability.
- Develop software for autonomous ground robot navigation, including global and local motion planning, SLAM, dynamic obstacle avoidance, and sensor fusion.
- Integrate, calibrate, and filter data from sensors such as LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, wheel encoders, and GPS/RTK.
- Coordinate, develop, and test product updates using Software in the Loop (SIL) and Hardware in the Loop (HIL) testing.
- Analyze, diagnose, and resolve technical software issues encountered during development and after deployment in the field.
- Review telemetry, logs, and system performance metrics to conduct root-cause analysis on unexpected robot behavior or software failures.
- Collaborate with customer success teams to convert customer pain points into bug fixes, diagnostic tools, and new features.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 2+ years of professional experience with software development on robotic systems.
