Senior Applications Engineer – Alignment & Metrology
Job Description
Opto-Alignment Technology is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer specializing in Alignment and Metrology to drive cross-functional projects from concept through delivery. This onsite role in Indian Trail, NC blends hands-on technical problem solving with active customer engagement, coordinating internal resources across R&D, Production, and service teams to support the complete solution lifecycle.
You will contribute to business development efforts, assist with sales estimates and quotes, and help produce marketing materials and comprehensive documentation. The position requires hands-on experience with optical testing, alignment, metrology, and imaging tools, along with frequent collaboration with customers and internal stakeholders to bring solutions from development into production.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage internal resources within the Applications Team to meet deadlines.
- Support business development activities.
- Assist with customer communications, including generating sales estimates and quotes.
- Contribute to the creation of marketing materials and documentation.
- Oversee new tool installations and training at customer sites.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date product documentation and training manuals.
- Collaborate with R&D and Operations on solutions for new customer applications.
- Ensure a smooth transition from development to Production.
- Address customer service issues promptly and courteously.
- Maintain a professional business relationship with customers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 6-8 years of industry experience in related Service or Applications roles.
- Hands-on experience with tools for optical testing, alignment, metrology, and imaging.
- Ability to read optical, mechanical, and electrical drawings and documentation.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- US citizenship is required for ITAR compliance.
- Travel requriement of 30% - 50% (domestic and international).
- Experience with measurement systems is essential.
- Background in optics and optical manufacturing is preferred.
