Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer role at Berkshire Grey focuses on end-to-end electrical design for robotics and automation, covering concepting, designing, prototyping, testing, and launching products into production, in addition to supporting deployed systems.

Responsibilities

  • Concept, design, prototype, and test new electrical designs.
  • Launch products into production and provide ongoing support for deployed systems.
  • Translate unclear problems into practical solutions while thriving in a team of top talent.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Mechatronics, Computer, Mechanical, Robotics Engineering, Physics).
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in industries such as material handling, process automation, piece part automation, or semiconductor.
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering automation systems to production.
  • Willingness to participate in the full electrical design lifecycle from ideation through production support and troubleshooting.
  • Experience developing and maintaining electrical interconnect and cable designs in AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • PCB design, development, and deployment with preferred familiarity in Altium.
  • Experience with equipment including conveyors, robot arms, photo-eyes, proximity sensors, VFD drives, barcode scanners, and safety controllers.
  • Electrical system and component design knowledge covering DC, analog, single-phase and three-phase circuits; industrial panels operating at 220-480V.
  • Knowledge of motor architectures in the 50W to 3kW range.
  • Understanding of functional safety devices and their relation to Safety Performance Level.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of electrical systems, sensors, mechanical systems, and controls logic.
  • Design experience for UL and CE standards compliance.
  • Root cause analysis and management of updates, including service bulletins.
  • Selection and control of BLDC, servo, stepper, and induction motors.
  • Selection, specification, and integration of sensing solutions including retroreflective, inductive proximity, Reed switches, and load cells.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD tools.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
