Position summary

Work model

Core Lab & Ops: this position typically requires on‑site work, with the majority of responsibilities conducted at the Bedford facility.

Responsibilities

Provide hands‑on support for system troubleshooting, reliability improvements, and commissioning activities
Lead or participate in project teams responsible for mechanical and chemical utility system design, installation, and startup
Collaborate with internal and external partners to produce engineering deliverables including Basis of Design, design narratives, performance specifications, SOPs, and HAZOP reviews
Work with cross‑functional teams and external consultants to drive project success and capture lessons learned
Review and approve design documents, shop drawings, submittals, and system modifications
Oversee consultant and contractor work: define scopes, review bids, track performance, and ensure cost and schedule adherence
Identify and pursue opportunities for innovation and efficiency in facility systems
Conduct site walks to coordinate utility connections and validate system integration with new equipment
Ensure reliable, efficient and sustained operation of the facility and all utility equipment
Drive improvements in infrastructure and utilities to enhance availability and reliability
Support current and future facility capital projects and site goals
Lead and coordinate system and equipment shutdowns and oversee small projects for architectural and utility repairs
Manage third party service providers and ensure staff are properly trained and qualified
Establish, monitor, and drive continuous improvements for facility and utility KPIs
Apply root‑cause analysis to troubleshoot failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Familiarize with and advocate the use of the CMMS to document all maintenance and repair activities

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience
Minimum 3 years in facilities engineering, HVAC and utility system design; co‑op experience considered
Hands‑on experience with system startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operations
Ability to read P&IDs and AFDs and translate symbols into the physical space
Proficient in developing technical documentation including SOPs, design reports, and operational sequences
Familiarity with AutoCAD, HVAC load calculators, hydraulic analysis software, and MS Office
Ability to manage multiple complex projects and mentor facility technicians
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
Can‑do attitude with drive to achieve personal and organizational goals
Knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety regulations and a strong safety advocate on site
Planning, problem analysis, and decision‑making skills

Hands-on troubleshooting of electrical systems, sensors, mechanical systems, and controls logic.
Design experience for UL and CE standards compliance.
Root cause analysis and management of updates, including service bulletins.
Selection and control of BLDC, servo, stepper, and induction motors.
Selection, specification, and integration of sensing solutions including retroreflective, inductive proximity, Reed switches, and load cells.
Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD tools.
Willingness to travel up to 10%.
