Job Description

In BLE's Lexington, South Carolina office, the Senior Engineer - CMT leads construction materials testing within the geotechnical practice, guiding challenging investigations and shaping project outcomes through detailed data interpretation. This onsite role combines technical leadership with client-facing communication, mentorship of junior staff, and the ongoing expansion of BLE's geotechnical capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert interpretation of analytical data to support a wide range of projects.
  • Lead geotechnical investigations including site reconnaissance, drilling oversight, sampling, and field data collection while assigning soils laboratory testing.
  • Interpret site data to inform decisions that meet project objectives.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, maps, and presentations for clients, regulators, and internal teams.
  • Ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and quality across deliverables.
  • Serve as the technical lead on complex environmental investigations and remediation projects.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of environmental engineering principles, regulations, and remediation technologies.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule adherence.
  • Direct field operations, including subcontractor oversight, drilling, sampling, and logging activities.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverable deadlines.
  • Stay current with evolving industry regulations, best practices, and technologies.
  • Contribute to operational improvements and internal technical initiatives.
  • Review delegated project deliverables produced by team members.
  • Provide technical direction to multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Oversee staffing, resource allocation, and planning of field operations.
  • Mentor and train junior technical staff to foster professional growth and technical development.
  • Maintain and strengthen client relationships through consistent project delivery and professional interactions.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Maintain safety standards including HAZWOPER requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical focus; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Six to eight years of relevant professional experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in South Carolina or North Carolina, with the ability to become licensed in additional Southeastern states within six months.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical design and construction requirements.
  • Knowledge of geosynthetics.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for site meetings, marketing, technical seminars, regulatory seminars, engineering workshops, and client development within the Southeastern U.S.
  • Strong knowledge of regulations (state and federal), subsurface geology, soil and rock mechanics, hydrogeology, and geotechnical site assessment.
  • Experience with field investigation techniques (drilling, sampling, logging).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor staff.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Strong technical expertise and effective project management skills.
  • Ability to interpret and utilize environmental data to reach project objectives.
  • Commitment to staying current with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of soils laboratory testing procedures and practices.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship and able to interview on-site where the position is located.
