Job Description

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the design and delivery of the Serviceability Engine within Systems Design Engineering. This hybrid role in Austin, TX, sits at the crossroads of platform architecture and cross-functional collaboration, translating customer and business requirements into concrete engineering plans that span data center, client, and embedded product lines. A bachelor’s degree is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal technical owner of the Serviceability Engine, guiding the full architectural direction, key design choices, and the technology roadmap.
  • Develop and formalize detailed architectural specifications for the Engine, covering error detection, reporting, fault isolation, and recovery mechanisms.
  • Lead architecture reviews and design discussions with platform architects, hardware engineers, firmware teams, and software stakeholders.
  • Assess trade-offs among performance, power, footprint, and serviceability to optimize system-wide outcomes.
  • Define and uphold architectural standards, design patterns, and best practices for serviceability across AMD product families.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance and coaching.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers to translate business and customer requirements into clear, actionable engineering specifications.
  • Coordinate with Platform Architects to ensure the Serviceability Engine aligns with broader platform and system goals.
  • Own the Serviceability Engine requirements document, ensuring completeness, traceability, and alignment among stakeholders.
  • Create and manage the delivery plan, including milestones, dependencies, resource needs, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Identify technical risks and gaps in the delivery plan early, working with the program team to resolve them before they impact schedules.
  • Act as the technical interface between the Engine team and adjacent groups, such as CPU/GPU architecture, firmware, platform software, validation, and customer-facing teams.
  • Engage with Business Units and Product Owners to capture serviceability needs across data center, client, and embedded segments.
  • Represent the Engine in architecture forums, program reviews, and executive milestone discussions.
  • Collaborate with validation and test teams to define serviceability test plans, fault-injection strategies, and coverage criteria.
  • Support customer and partner engagements that require deep serviceability expertise.

Requirements

  • Proven experience defining architectural specifications and guiding them through the full software development lifecycle in a large, complex engineering organization.
  • Strong background in CPU, GPU, or SoC architecture with hands-on experience in firmware and/or platform software.
  • Experience partnering with Program Managers to build and execute delivery plans in a matrixed, multi-business-unit environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly presenting complex technical concepts to both engineering peers and executive stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with data center and cloud serviceability requirements.
  • Prior experience as a technical lead or architect in a cross-functional program with multiple hardware and software dependencies.
