Senior Hardware Security Engineer
Job Description
Lead the security architecture for Microsoft’s cloud hardware platform, from threat modeling to secure silicon and high scale deployment.
Responsibilities
- Architect security infrastructure around core AI technologies and platform components (including accelerator modules such as MAIA) to align with throughput and latency requirements
- Develop AI-driven security analysis capabilities, including security analysis of code and architecture
- Perform threat model analysis for platform components and how they interact
- Handle open-ended problem statements by deriving the problem definition from business requirements and fleet telemetry
- During design, partner with security and platform infrastructure teams to own infrastructure management architecture and deliver the solution across the path from silicon to platform
- Work across multiple phases of product development, including secure silicon design, manufacturing, supply chain, and deployment at high scale
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience, OR Bachelor’s Degree AND 5+ years technical engineering experience, OR equivalent experience
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements for the role, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check (required to pass upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter)
- 10+ years of professional experience spanning architecture, design, and validation of SOC internal blocks (SOC components may include CPU, GPU, or networking devices)
- Demonstrable skills in System Verilog, synthesis tools, pre-silicon timing path debug and fixes, UVM, C, Python, and related engineering workflows
- Knowledge of Rust is good to have
- Familiarity with PCIe architecture and server architectures is a huge plus
- Ability to debug and resolve issues across multiple subsystems
- Open to learning newer areas and able to operate across architecture, design, and validation
- Strong problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills with advanced design and development ability

- Join the Systems Planning and Architecture (SPARC) team within Microsoft’s Azure Hardware Systems and Infrastructure (AHSI)
- Contribute to Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure and supporting Intelligent Cloud mission
- Work across all phases of product development, including threat model analysis, architectural evaluation, secure silicon design, manufacturing, supply chain activities, and high-scale deployment
- Role includes dynamic work spanning architecture, design, and validation stages
Location and Compensation
- Location: Redmond, WA (onsite)
- Salary: USD 119,800 - 261,000 per yearly
- Hardware Engineering IC4 base pay range (typical across the U.S.): USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year
- Base pay range for specific locations: San Francisco Bay area and New York City metro area: USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year
