Senior IT Help Desk Engineer
Job Description
The Senior IT Help Desk Engineer position with the Dept of Ed Central Operations in Richmond, VA offers on site responsibilities centered on advanced troubleshooting, vulnerability remediation, and comprehensive IT operations support.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert level troubleshooting for help desk requests, addressing complex software, networking, and hardware issues.
- Manage vulnerability remediation end to end, including reviewing reports from Information Security, defining remediation steps, coordinating rollout, and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
- Coordinate agency computer refresh operations, including procurement of new equipment, handling exception approvals, and scheduling activities.
- Administer consoles for multiple applications such as Adobe, PDQ, Microsoft, Verizon and others.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in information technology, information security, or a related field.
- Experience supporting help desk activities related to software and hardware issues and/or setup.
- Knowledge of information security and technology considerations within the public education environment.
- Proven ability in technical writing and producing system documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret system vulnerability reports.
- Experience and understanding of patch management.
- Knowledge of networks, network traffic, and/or network architecture.
- Proficiency with Windows 10/11.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Active Directory.

Additional Considerations
- Considerable knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia IT Security policies and standards preferred.
- Information Security or Technology Industry certifications are highly desirable.
