Senior Packaging Engineer
Job Description
Metamagnetics is expanding its engineering team with a Senior Packaging Engineer who will steer RF and microwave packaging from initial concept through production release. This onsite role in Marlborough, MA, offers a competitive salary in the USD 140,000 to 170,000 range and the chance to influence high volume defense packaging technologies for next-generation systems.
Responsibilities
- Technical lead for RF/microwave packages made from plastic, ceramic, and metal materials
- Collaborate with internal design, QA, reliability, failure analysis, and supply chain teams, along with external suppliers, to select and qualify packaging technologies and assembly processes with emphasis on cost, manufacturability, yield, and quality
- Partner with vendors and internal engineers to establish and update design rules governing packaging
- Develop and implement robust internal and contract manufacturer assembly processes
- Troubleshoot packaging defects and implement effective corrective actions
- Coordinate with the Quality organization to characterize failure modes and analyze them against packaging materials and processes
- Provide thermal modeling and craft application notes for new packages
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional RF/Microwave hardware development experience
- Background in the Aerospace/Defense sector is preferred
- RF circuit and component design capabilities
- Systems engineering perspective
- Prototyping and hardware assembly experience
- Experience with linear and nonlinear RF/microwave modeling and testing
- Research interest or experience in ferromagnetic phenomena in materials
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field with a focus on surface mount packaging development
- Master's degree and/or PhD considered an advantage
- Proactive problem-solver who can excel independently and in a team
- Expertise in advanced IC package process development, design, and thermal analysis with emphasis on RF and microwave ICs
- Strong knowledge of product characterization and reliability testing standards (JEDEC, IPC, EIA, RoHS, WEEE)
- Experience with failure analysis methodologies
- Ability to address steady-state and dynamic thermal and mechanical problems using FEA and CFD tools
- Deep understanding of materials used for RF components and module packaging and assembly
- US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required
- Ability to hold or obtain a Security Clearance (Secret)
