Senior Product Design Engineer
Job Description
The Senior Product Design Engineer will lead end-to-end product design and release activities at Jaypro Sports, partnering with a cross-functional group to move concepts into full-scale manufacturing. This onsite role in Waterford, CT also includes oversight of documentation, ERP build setup, and ECN and revision control for product updates.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a team of 2-3 people to support new product design and release.
- Lead development of new products from initial concept through design, manufacturing, and release.
- Evaluate designs for manufacturability, functionality, and cost-effectiveness, ensuring integration into the production line for full-scale manufacturing.
- Oversee prototype production runs to support timely manufacture of new designs.
- Develop product structures and routings in ERP.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including bill of materials (BOMs), manufacturing routings, and work instructions.
- Collaborate with internal design resources on manufacturing drawings and revisions.
- Conduct product testing and evaluations to confirm products meet industry standards and customer expectations.
- Assemble and perform first piece inspections for external vendor products and provide supplier feedback as needed.
- Identify improvement opportunities in existing products and manufacturing processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Develop strategies to optimize packaging for protection, cost reduction, and bulk shipment needs.
- Oversee the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process for all product updates or modifications.
- Enforce revision control and corrective action plans associated with ECNs.
- Address field issues involving manufacturing defects or incorrect hardware.
- Support Customer Service with product-related questions or concerns.
- Recommend and implement corrective actions, including product reworks, manufacturing process adjustments, and design modifications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field, with BSME or BSCE preferred.
- 5 years of experience (5-7 years in a manufacturing setting preferred).
- Proficiency in solid modeling, ideally with Autodesk Inventor.
- Experience with PDM systems, preferably Autodesk Vault.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, ideally Syteline.
- Ability to demonstrate strong ownership through initiative with minimal supervision.
- Highly self-motivated with strong organizational, communication, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with effective problem-solving skills.
- Capability to make independent, effective decisions.
- Ability to complete projects and meet project deadlines.
Preferred / Additional Knowledge
- Knowledge of various materials and fabrication processes.
- LEAN principles training preferred.

Compensation and Employment Details
- Salary: USD 90,000 - 120,000 per year
