Senior Risk Analytics Software Engineer - AVP

Build secure, high-performance Risk Analytics solutions at Barclays in Whippany, NJ (onsite). This Senior Risk Analytics Software Engineer (AVP) role focuses on designing, developing, testing, and supporting technology for Risk Analytics, Market Risk, and regulatory initiatives within an Agile environment. You’ll contribute to scalable software that helps enable business, platform, and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues.

As you deliver, you will also shape decision-making through advisory support, help strengthen controls, and lead teams or collaborative workstreams depending on the leadership scope of the position. Compensation for this role is USD 120,000 - 175,000 per year (base salary only).

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver high-quality software using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools, ensuring code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements, devise solution strategies, and align integration to business objectives.
• Participate in code reviews and support a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Apply secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.
• Implement unit testing practices to improve code readability, design, and reliability.
• Advise and influence decision-making by contributing to policy development and taking ownership of operational effectiveness, collaborating with other functions and business divisions.
• Lead complex work that impacts the broader business function: set objectives, coach employees toward outcomes, and support performance appraisal and reward outcomes.

Requirements

• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining analytics and reporting platforms that support data-driven business and risk management decisions.
• Hands-on experience building data transformation, enrichment, and workflow orchestration solutions for scalable data pipelines.
• Strong Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) knowledge, with experience using frameworks and tools such as FastAPI, Spring Boot, and Apache Airflow.
• Proven programming expertise in Python and/or Java, plus Spark, SQL, Hadoop, Pandas, NumPy, Unix/Linux, and PowerShell scripting.
• Experience with software testing and development best practices including PyTest, unit testing, and Python package management tools such as pip, Poetry, and Conda.

Highly Valued Skills

• Understanding of data governance, data quality management, regulatory controls, and compliance requirements.
