Senior Robotics Software Engineer

RC Mowers is developing autonomous mowing robots and is seeking a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to design and ship ROS2 features that elevate machine behavior. You will contribute to fleet management, perception, sensor fusion, and platform architecture, collaborating closely with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers as well as field-test technicians. This onsite role is based in Suamico, Wisconsin, with a salary of USD 100,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Develop and ship ROS2 features that enhance machine behavior and unlock new capabilities in our autonomous mowing robots.
• Expand our fleet management layer, including telemetry, OTA updates, remote operations, and fleet-wide observability.
• Advance perception, sensor fusion, and decision-making in unstructured outdoor environments.
• Collaborate directly with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers, and with technicians who validate and field-test the software you build.
• Make architectural decisions that influence the platform's capabilities two to three years out.
• Help shape hiring, code reviews, and scaling of the software team as the company grows.

Requirements

• Strong production ROS2 experience with shipped and maintained software that users depend on (not coursework or side projects).
• Solid C++ and/or Python, with comfort moving between them.
• Experience in at least one of: fleet management or distributed systems at scale, or computer vision and sensor fusion in real-world conditions.
• A practical sense of when to build, when to integrate, and when to retire a solution.
• Judgment to operate as a senior individual contributor: you scope your own work, push back when needed, and ship without requiring heavy management.
• Clear technical writing skills, including design docs, postmortems, and code review comments that move the team forward.
