Senior Software Engineer

The Senior Software Engineer position supports a Chicago-based trading technology startup building and scaling systems used across trading, market data, clearing, and post-trade workflows. This is a hands-on high-performance Java backend role covering work from design through production, with an onsite option in Chicago or fully remote participation.

Role Responsibilities

• Develop and scale systems that support trading, market data, clearing, and post-trade workflows
• Build and improve high-performance backend services for real-time market data, exchange integrations, regulatory workflows, and trade processing
• Convert business requirements into technical solutions
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to reliable, scalable implementation
• Handle complex technical challenges with ownership of outcomes
• Work on initiatives end-to-end, from design through production

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Experience using APIs, distributed systems, messaging/event-driven architectures, and SQL
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Preferred Background

• Experience in trading, fintech, market data, or other high-throughput systems is a plus
• Experience with FIX, exchange connectivity, clearing, or risk systems is helpful but not required

The role focuses on Java, Spring Boot, and SQL.

Work Location and Schedule

Based in Chicago, IL (hybrid). The role supports either working onsite in Chicago’s Loop 2-3 days per week or working fully remote.

Compensation

USD 160,000 per year (fixed).
