Job Description

Health Data Analytics Institute offers a hybrid backend role in Dedham, MA with a competitive annual salary range of $155,347 to $185,457 and a comprehensive benefits package. The Senior Software Engineer will design distributed services and APIs that transform and serve data at scale, delivering fast, reliable backend capabilities for the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, implement, and maintain a distributed data processing and API layer on AWS using Lambda functions and REST interfaces to power HealthVision
  • Own the development and maintenance of FastAPI based services and API Gateway integrations to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability
  • Model and query data across relational and non-relational stores to optimize storage and retrieval patterns
  • Collaborate with ML Operations and Data Engineering to structure and surface data for AI inference and clinical workloads
  • Contribute across the full software lifecycle from design through testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration
  • Advance engineering best practices including code quality, documentation, and Agile/Scrum processes
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, growth, and innovation within the Data Retrieval Platform team and the broader engineering organization

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend software engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python for production service development
  • Hands-on experience building and operating distributed systems on AWS, particularly Lambda and API Gateway
  • Solid experience designing RESTful APIs, including FastAPI or similar frameworks
  • Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and non-relational databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB)
  • Familiarity with the full software lifecycle including design, testing, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and to set direction and make progress with evolving requirements
  • Comfort with Git and working on a team using Agile/Scrum
  • Healthcare or regulated industry experience is a plus; familiarity with HIPAA preferred
  • Startup experience is a plus; comfort wearing multiple hats and moving quickly without sacrificing quality
