Senior Software Machine Learning Engineer

This onsite role in Mountain View, CA offers an annual salary range of USD 174,000 to 253,000 plus equity. DeepMind invites a Senior Software Machine Learning Engineer to focus on designing agentic workflows, building scalable runtime infrastructure for AI agents, and partnering with researchers to translate AI research into production-ready features.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement advanced agentic workflows that enable models to leverage tools and data to tackle complex problems.
• Build and optimize the runtime infrastructure for speed and reliability, ensuring state-of-the-art models and features operate with minimal latency.
• Collaborate with research scientists and product managers to translate research findings and user needs into robust, scalable features.
• Design and implement testing and evaluation frameworks to measure performance, accuracy, and efficiency of agentic workflows, driving ongoing improvements.
• Own the production environment, leading debugging efforts, improving observability, and ensuring high uptime and reliability for the agent.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
• 5 years of experience in software or machine learning engineering
• 1 year of experience with one or more of the following: generative AI, large language modeling, reinforcement learning (sequential decision making), recommender systems, or another ML field

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Machine Learning, or equivalent industry experience
• 3 years of experience coding in C++ or Python
• Experience building or using AI agents and productionizing large language and multimodal models
