Senior Staff Software Engineer, Developer Productivity
Job Description
Asana’s Developer Productivity team is hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead AI-powered improvements to the software development lifecycle and developer velocity.
Responsibilities
- Lead critical developer productivity and AI developer tooling initiatives impacting 500+ developers at Asana
- Collaborate with the Developer Productivity Group Tech Lead to set technical vision and strategy for 6+ engineering teams, focused on improving velocity across Asana
- Own and align on the roadmap for Asana’s development platform, improving feedback loops in the development lifecycle and how every Asana engineer ships
- Drive outcomes such as extending internal tooling used by engineers to delegate work to agents across harnesses
- Mentor senior and staff-level engineers within Developer Productivity and across Foundations and the broader Engineering organization
- Serve as a technical resource for team-level tech leads on longer-term technical planning, design & architecture, and prioritizing tech debt
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as a technical contributor in large-scale products
- 2+ years owning a build system, developer environment, CI, or equivalent at an organization of 200+ engineers
- Experience making and delegating technical decisions with org-wide impact
- Fluency in current AI developer tooling with strong enough opinions to collaborate with teams and set direction
- Commitment to coaching and mentoring engineers at all experience levels
- Strong focus on collaboration and building an inclusive culture where people can bring their full selves to work and thrive
- Curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with willingness to learn and apply them to improve productivity, collaboration, or decision-making
What you’ll achieve
- Deliver developer productivity and AI tooling projects that impact 500+ developers
- Partner with the Developer Productivity Group Tech Lead to define technical vision for 6+ engineering teams with the goal of improving Asana engineer velocity
- Execute on a development platform roadmap that accelerates development lifecycle feedback loops
- Extend internal tooling to enable engineers to delegate work to agents across harnesses
- Mentor senior and staff engineers across Developer Productivity and Foundations and the broader Engineering organization
- Support team-level tech leads with longer-term planning, design & architecture, and tech debt prioritization
Compensation & location
- Location: New York, NY (hybrid)
- Estimated base salary range: USD 323,500 - 336,750 per year
- Salary note: Actual base salary varies based on market and individual qualifications assessed during the interview process
- Additional compensation: Compensation package may include additional components such as equity; sales incentive pay for most sales roles; and benefits
