Senior Traffic Engineer

O&M Consulting Engineering, PSC is seeking a Senior Traffic Operations and Safety Engineer (P.E.) to support traffic operations and safety planning, analysis, design, and implementation projects. This role blends technical work with client engagement and project leadership, serving municipal and PRHTA needs while coordinating with public agencies across levels.

The position is based in Guaynabo, PR with hybrid remote options (PR 00968), and is suited to an experienced engineer ready to lead work from early planning through implementation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage traffic operations and safety projects from planning through implementation.
• Prepare Traffic & Safety Engineering Plans, along with Specifications and Estimates.
• Develop Construction Sequencing and Traffic Control Design and Operation (MOT).
• Perform and oversee traffic engineering analyses, including traffic operations and capacity, traffic safety and crash analysis, signal warrant evaluations and optimization, and corridor, intersection, and network studies.
• Develop traffic signal, signing, and pavement marking design.
• Prepare technical reports, design studies, and engineering recommendations for municipal and PRHTA clients.
• Coordinate with local, county, and federal agencies, including FDOT, counties, and municipalities.
• Review plans and studies prepared by junior engineers and provide technical mentorship.
• Ensure compliance with applicable local, county, and federal standards and guidelines.
• Support proposal development, marketing efforts, and business development initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering; Master Degree in Transportation Engineering preferred.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) licence in Puerto Rico (required).
• 8–10 years of progressive experience in traffic operations and safety engineering.
• Strong experience with PRHTA and municipal traffic standards, manuals, and procedures.
• Proficiency in traffic engineering and analysis software, including SYNCHRO/SimTraffic and HCS; experience with VISSIM, SIDRA, or similar software is preferred, along with working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
• Familiarity with traffic safety programs, systemic safety analysis, and crash modification factors (CMFs).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
