Software Development Engineer
Job Description
The Software Development Engineer will develop and maintain Improv VB.NET applications and internal tools, with on-site training and potential hybrid work.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Improv's structural design, building modeling, and detailing modules.
- Create and sustain standalone programs for structural analysis and design of entire buildings and individual components.
- Build and maintain internal productivity tools for generating manufacturing shop orders and production instructions.
- Design and maintain user interfaces, databases, and reports.
- Test software to ensure it meets specifications and requirements.
- Provide user support and training to staff and stakeholders.
- Gather information from users regarding software requirements and translate them into solutions.
- Collaborate with the software development, production engineering, and drafting teams.
- Recommend improvements by adopting new technologies and methods to enhance existing systems.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of structural engineering experience, preferably in the wood construction industry.
- Bachelor's degree in civil or mechanical engineering, software development, or a related field; or equivalent technical experience.
- Minimum 3 years of user interface development experience.
- More than 3 years of application development experience using Microsoft Visual Studio 2019 or newer.
- Strong knowledge of VB.NET and Microsoft Windows desktop applications.
- Working knowledge of object oriented programming and design including extensive use of objects and inheritance.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or newer and Transact-SQL.
- Strong mathematical skills used for a detailed virtual building model, including spatial relationships, geometry, trigonometry, and critical thinking.
- Demonstrated ownership and accountability for technical projects.
- Interest in hands-on, end-to-end development in a dynamic, agile environment.

Compensation
