Software Engineer

Join an autonomous, agile software team at the Law School Admission Council and help deliver reliable web-based applications and backend systems. This remote role (Newtown, PA) supports professional development through modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development using GitHub Copilot, plus opportunities to contribute to Generative AI capabilities built with Azure OpenAI Service and RAG in line with Responsible AI practices.

Salary: USD 108,000 - 115,000 per year

What you’ll do

• Work with internal partners to design, configure, maintain, and promote internally and externally facing applications while ensuring accessibility compliance (including WCAG 2.1 and ARIA).
• Monitor, test, and optimize applications to support reliability and adherence to architectural standards.
• Contribute to continuous code delivery using deployment tools and automated testing.
• Scale software to support dynamic teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Build and maintain scalable applications that meet customer expectations.
• Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver solutions.
• Use GitHub Copilot and other AI-assisted tools to accelerate coding, testing, and debugging, following team prompting standards and code-review practices for AI-generated code.
• Help design and develop Generative AI features such as chat interfaces, document summarization, intelligent search, and automated content generation using Azure OpenAI Service and related APIs.
• Build and integrate Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines with vector databases (for example: Azure AI Search, Pinecone, pgvector) to ground AI responses in enterprise data.
• Apply Responsible AI practices, including bias awareness, PII handling, and content-safety review, when building or maintaining AI-powered features.

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (or minimum 5 years of experience required).
• Experience with object-oriented languages.
• Experience with web and cross-platform technologies.
• Hands-on Git experience and code management methodologies.
• Experience with continuous delivery and automated testing.
• Experience with both relational and unstructured data repositories.
• Knowledge of modern development practices and lifecycle using Scrum, Kanban, Lean, or other agile methodologies.
• Required experience in:
  • React
  • MS VB and C# .NET frameworks including Web Forms and Windows Forms, .NET, .NET WEB API, Entity Framework 6.4, MVC Pattern, SPA Framework
  • JavaScript and frameworks (including React JS)
  • Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle, including Stored Procedures/Scripts
  • Azure stack (including Azure Functions, Azure Data Factory, Azure Storage Account, Azure Key Vault, Azure Cosmos DB, Service Bus, Azure App Service, Azure VMs, Azure Table Storage, and related services)
  • Azure DevOps CI/CD
  • Responsible AI practices for bias awareness, PII handling, and content-safety review
  • GitHub Copilot (or comparable AI coding assistants), including writing effective prompts and reviewing AI-generated code for quality and security
  • Generative AI / LLM concepts such as Azure OpenAI Service, prompt engineering, RAG, and vector databases
  • Awareness of Responsible AI principles including bias, PII handling, and content safety

• No people management responsibilities.
• Business hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. ET. As an exempt employee, you may be expected to work hours necessary to complete assignments.
• Remote professional office environment with standard office equipment.
• No travel expected.
• Ability to write, read, and communicate effectively; weekends may be necessary.
