Join ATC in Madison, onsite, to shape WisVote UI/UX for Wisconsin's statewide voter registration system. This role centers on accessibility, cross-device usability, and close collaboration with developers and election specialists, built on the .NET Core framework with a focus on WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. You will help maintain a design language familiar to system users while improving usability and security alignment across the platform.
This position sits within the Wisconsin Elections Commission’s Information Technology team and reports to the IT Project Manager and IT Director. WisVote serves as the state’s central database of voter and election information and is the primary tool for local election officials to administer elections. You will be a key contributor to designing, developing, and maintaining the WisVote UI/UX to support accurate information delivery and efficient workflows for stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Design, help develop, and maintain the UI/UX for rebuilding WisVote, the statewide voter registration system built on the .NET Core framework.
- Create intuitive, efficient, and accessible designs that meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards while aligning usability and security requirements, preserving the familiar structure used by system users.
- Collaborate with developers and WisVote election specialists to translate functional needs into user-friendly designs, conduct accessibility testing, and ensure a consistent, responsive experience across devices and assistive technologies.
- Ensure compliance with the agency’s timekeeping system so tasks qualify under federal funding guidelines or reflect proper State fund accounting for State initiatives.
- Operate under the supervision of the IT Project Manager and IT Director, serving as a resource for developers and election specialists within the Information Technology team.
Requirements
- At least 3 years' experience creating low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes to visualize and test design concepts
- At least 3 years' experience writing clear, concise, user-friendly text for interfaces
- At least 3 years' experience conducting user research, gathering qualitative and quantitative data, and analyzing it to inform design decisions
- At least 3 years' experience creating user personas, user flows, and journey maps to understand user needs and behaviors
