Software Engineer

Genesis (Columbia Debt Recovery, LLC, dba: Genesis) is seeking a Software Engineer to help build and maintain core software systems for its debt recovery operations. This role is onsite in Phoenix, AZ and focuses on full-stack development, system integrations, automation, and data pipelines that support internal teams and workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain applications and services, including backend services, APIs, and user-facing tools such as features for the Genesis Console used across all departments.
• Use AI coding assistants and agents to prototype, write, test, refactor, and review code for correctness, security, and maintainability.
• Integrate internal and external systems, connecting the collection platform, payment processors and banks, telephony and dialer tools, HR and finance systems, and third-party APIs to reduce manual exports and rekeying.
• Design data models and APIs that support financial, compliance, and operational workflows with accurate, auditable, and well-documented data.
• Automate repetitive tasks such as reconciliations, reports, file transfers, and approvals, including creation of reliable automated workflows and dashboards (including Power BI).
• Support security and compliance by implementing security-focused development practices, including access control, logging, and audit trails aligned with PCI DSS, GLBA, SOC 2, and client requirements.
• Maintain reliability by owning testing, monitoring, deployment, and documentation so others can run and extend the systems you build.
• Collaborate with leadership and department owners to plan and deliver work, participate in code reviews, and share AI workflows and best practices with the team.

Requirements

• 3 to 6 years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping production systems end to end.
• Strong backend skills in Node.js, TypeScript, Python, or similar, along with working knowledge of React or a modern front-end framework.
• Experience with relational databases such as Postgres or SQL Server, REST or GraphQL APIs, and cloud platforms including AWS or Azure.
• Hands-on daily experience using AI coding tools (examples include Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot) with the judgment to trust, verify, or reject generated output.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with comfort in a fast-moving, evolving environment.
• Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical leaders, and a collaborative mindset.

Compensation

USD 91,000 to 110,000 per year.
