Job Description
Software Engineer role focused on building and delivering end-to-end features for Tesla’s internal Payroll System supporting HR Operations & Systems.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship features end to end across schema and migration, API, and UI (not just handoffs)
- Design RESTful APIs in .NET (C#) using a controller to service to repository layering approach, with dependency injection throughout
- Create data-dense React interfaces using TypeScript, including AG-Grid views and TDS components
- Use Jotai and React Query for client state and server data integration
- Develop and improve audit workflows, findings triage, and security group management for compliance-sensitive outcomes
- Write unit and integration tests alongside implementation (test/ suites included as part of the definition of done)
- Participate in code review in both directions
Requirements
- 5+ years building production backend services in .NET/C#, Python, or Go; able and willing to work primarily in C#
- React and TypeScript experience, with ownership of feature UI rather than only API work
- Strong SQL: ability to design tables, read an execution plan, and explain why a query slowed down
- Testing habits and comfort working with Git-based code review workflows
- CS fundamentals: data structures and algorithms you can reason about
- Experience integrating LLM APIs into production backend services (examples listed: Azure OpenAI, Claude)
- Knowledge of RAG pipelines, vector databases, or structured prompt engineering
- Experience shipping AI-assisted features in an enterprise application

What to Expect
- The Payroll System is the internal platform Tesla’s payroll operations teams use to run pay cycles, investigate discrepancies, and satisfy audit and SOX obligations
- Build tooling used by a real group of people with short feedback loops, a high correctness bar, and clarity on whether delivered work helps
Compensation
- $140,000 - $210,000 per year
- Cash and stock awards + benefits included in total compensation package
- Pay offered may vary based on individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
