Software Engineer II

Mastercard is hiring a Software Engineer II for the Portfolio Intelligence team in Arlington, VA (hybrid). In this role, you will design and build real-time, interactive analytics applications, partnering across teams to deliver scalable solutions for large-scale data environments.

Working in a full-stack capacity, you will help shape service-oriented architectures, develop dashboards and reporting experiences, and contribute to the full development lifecycle, from design through testing. The position includes a salary range of $106,000 - $169,000 USD for the Arlington, Virginia location.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, service-oriented software architectures that support analytics-driven applications.
• Build and continuously improve robust web applications and product capabilities.
• Write well-structured, maintainable code using modern design patterns that support separation of concerns.
• Create clean, testable code and participate in peer code reviews to maintain strong engineering standards.
• Develop algorithms and analytical techniques capable of on-the-fly processing across hundreds of dimensions.
• Contribute across the development lifecycle, including design, implementation, and testing.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver applications that are scalable and resilient and aligned with business needs.
• Leverage emerging technologies and innovative approaches to optimize performance across large-scale data environments.
• Apply expertise in computer science, mathematics, and statistics to solve complex challenges for global organizations.

Requirements

• Hands-on software engineering experience with a strong foundation in full-stack development and building scalable, high-performance applications.
• Full-stack development expertise across UI, microservices architecture, and database technologies.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, React, and PostgreSQL; experience with Snowflake is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI tools such as GitHub CoPilot and integrating AI into the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Solid understanding of software design patterns, system architecture, data structures, and algorithms, including experience creating maintainable, resilient, and high-performance systems.
• Ability to solve complex, real-world technical problems and innovate with large-scale data sets.
• Proven capability to thrive in collaborative, agile development, contributing to planning, execution, and continuous improvement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving mindset, initiative, and creativity when approaching new challenges.
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (equivalent practical experience may be considered).
