Software Engineer III
Job Description
Build and maintain open source software for the npm team, supporting the JavaScript ecosystem and helping improve reliability, security, and developer experience.
Responsibilities
- Write, review, and maintain code plus technical documentation
- Engage daily with community members, consumers, and contributors
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define, design, and develop new features aligned with business objectives and end-user needs
- Help triage and remediate bugs and security vulnerabilities
- Steward high-impact JavaScript open source projects used by millions of developers and supporting billions of downloads across the package registry
Requirements
- 4+ years of software engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline, with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software languages including (but not limited to) C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python
- OR Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience
- OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years experience in computer science or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python
- OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field
- OR Equivalent experience
- 2+ years experience with Cloud Services
- 2+ years experience developing and debugging large-scale projects, applications, or developer tools
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years experience with Node.js
- 3+ years experience with cloud services, including AWS development
- Experience building applications that adhere to the highest security standards
- Experience using AI-assisted coding and productivity tools

Compensation
- Base salary range: USD 107,700 - 285,900 per year
