Job Description

Walmart is hiring a Software Engineer III to help design, develop, and deliver secure, scalable, high-performance software solutions. This onsite role in Bentonville, AR focuses on building web applications and APIs while partnering across teams to convert requirements into technical outcomes, including modernization efforts across automation and DevOps practices.

What you’ll work on

  • Collaborate with UX designers to convert mockups and wireframes into functional web pages and applications.
  • Create user-friendly, visually consistent interfaces using ReactJS, Redux, ExpressJs (Node), NPM, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve scalable, secure, high-performance APIs, microservices, and components using Java Spring Boot and related technologies.
  • Participate in medium-scale projects with cross-functional teams to translate project needs into technical solutions.
  • Work with backend developers to support smooth frontend and backend integration, including API integration.
  • Design scalable, fault-tolerant microservices and loosely coupled services using real-time message processing.
  • Deploy containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Track and analyze critical technical debt, then provide guidance to help the team resolve it.
  • Apply AI Engineering and integration practices using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar tools to improve productivity, code quality, testing, debugging, and documentation.
  • Develop and integrate Generative AI solutions, including LLM-based applications, prompt engineering, and AI-powered developer or business solutions.
  • Build and support RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) applications and work with MCP (Model Context Protocol) to integrate LLMs with enterprise data, tools, APIs, and external systems.

Team and focus

  • Collaborate with Global Governance units to design and deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance web applications and APIs.
  • Develop fault-tolerant microservices using Java Spring Boot and Python, using containerized deployments with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Maintain software quality through rigorous code reviews and testing while addressing technical challenges efficiently.
  • Deliver iteratively with an emphasis on reliability, performance, and engineering best practices.

Minimum qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area, plus 2 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
  • Option 2: 4 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in software engineering with 2 years of experience developing and supporting complex systems using Java or a related programming language, with strong algorithmic skills.
  • 2-3 years of experience with responsive frameworks such as HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Material UI, React, Redux, ExpressJs (Node), and NPM.
  • 2-3 years of experience with databases, including Relational ( Azure SQL Server, Postgres ) and Cloud storage.
  • 2-3 years with microservices architectures, event-based architecture, and monitoring and alerting tools such as Dynatrace and Splunk.
  • 1-2 years of experience in RAG and MCP development.
  • Integrate and customize charts in UI components using ReactJS.
  • Design and implement applications for deployment to Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deploying code through pipelines; develop applications using Agile (Scrum) and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience working in a KPI-driven, highly agile environment.
  • Understanding of accessibility best practices and experience aligned to WCAG 2.2 AA standards, including assistive technologies, is valued.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science is listed as a value point.
