Software Engineer, Platform
Job Description
Speechify is seeking a Platform-focused backend engineer to design and sustain the core services that power payments, analytics, subscriptions, text-to-speech, and external APIs. This on-site role in Saint Paul, MN collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure the backend architecture aligns with product strategy and user experience. You will contribute to a product that serves a diverse user base and operates at the intersection of artificial intelligence and audio.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement resilient APIs, covering the public Text-to-Speech interface and internal services for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking, ensuring they scale with business needs
- Oversee the full backend API ecosystem, continuously optimizing for performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Engage in B2B solutions, tailoring integrations to enterprise clients' requirements
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure the backend architecture supports the overall product strategy and user experience
What you’ll do
- Build and maintain robust APIs including the public TTS API and internal services for Payments, Subscription, Auth, and Consumption Tracking, ensuring scalability and business fit
- Manage the backend API landscape, improving performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Support B2B offerings through customization and integration for enterprise customers
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align backend architecture with product strategy and user experience
Requirements
- Proven experience in backend development: TS/Node (required)
Ideal candidate should have
- Direct experience with GCP and knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other cloud providers
- Efficiency in ideation and implementation, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and impact
- Preferred: Experience with Docker and containerized deployments
- Preferred: Proficiency in deploying high availability applications on Kubernetes

Compensation and location
Location: Saint Paul, MN (onsite). Salary range in the United States is 140,000 to 200,000 USD per year, with bonus and stock options dependent on experience.
