Software Engineer (Platform Engineering)
Job Description
Versant Media is seeking a Software Engineer to support platform engineering for its video ecosystem. This hybrid role focuses on building and operating end-to-end video services across digital, OTT, and authenticated experiences, including client playback, delivery pipelines, live and on-demand workflows, and observability.
Role Overview
The Software Engineer will help implement video services, delivery mechanisms, and operational capabilities for Versant’s video platform ecosystem. Responsibilities cover the full delivery stack, from player frameworks and authentication to live and event-based streaming, with measurable performance and quality of experience improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to development of video player frameworks and SDKs for web, iOS, Android, and CTV.
- Build playback experiences that include authentication, personalization, and analytics.
- Optimize startup time, buffering, bitrate adaptation, and overall QoE across device types and network conditions.
- Ensure systems support real-time and near-real-time workflows for live sports, news, and event-based programming.
- Implement advertising solutions using DAI and integrate with core ad tech across the platform landscape.
- Deliver secure and scalable integrations with MVPDs, identity providers, and subscription platforms.
- Integrate with personalization services and data platforms to enable user-specific context and optimizations.
- Collaborate with Product, Distribution, Ad Tech, Data, and Editorial teams to deliver integrated video experiences.
- Partner with infrastructure, cloud, and DevOps teams to support scalable, reliable platform operations.
- Work with product and architecture teams to align technical direction and business priorities.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, with a background in video technology.
- Experience with HLS/DASH, DRM, CDNs, and encoding/transcoding, plus familiarity with player frameworks.
- Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML/CSS, and frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular.
- Experience developing and integrating backend services using Node, Python, or Go.
- Familiarity with ad-supported video (AVOD) and monetization workflows.
- Experience with analytics, observability, and performance monitoring.
- Familiarity with AWS and/or Azure, plus CI/CD methodologies.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Compensation
USD 120,000 - 150,000 per year. Good faith pay ranges are used for positions, and actual compensation may reflect skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additional compensation and benefits may include health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and other forms of benefits.
